WHY HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER?

Whether you’re an experienced athlete or a complete beginner, all of us can do with a little support and guidance sometimes.  Having a personal trainer is becoming increasingly common but there are a variety of reasons why people require that 1-2-1 support.

I think motivation is one of the main reasons people initially think about getting a trainer.  They might want some help getting into a regular exercise routine and feel a personal trainer can help them do that.  Or perhaps they are training for something specific and want the increased guidance, expertise and accountability that a PT can offer.

Some trainers (like myself) are qualified to work with people who need specialist expertise, perhaps they are pregnant or have a chronic health condition. It is widely recognised now that exercising whilst pregnant is good for you and can also help many health conditions, so don’t let an illness be a barrier to moving.  Of course, it can be daunting doing this alone, so hiring a qualified expert for a bit of hand holding can really help.

I know lots of people worry they are not fit enough to hire a personal trainer.  If you’re a complete beginner, then this is a fantastic time to get one.  You’ll be supported and guided so that you learn good form and it’s a lot more fun than starting out alone!  Pick the right trainer who can really understand your needs and support you effectively.  Good technical knowledge is important but a trainer who you can connect with and who inspires you is a great find and will help you develop a positive relationship with exercise.

Getting a personal trainer doesn’t need to cost a bomb or be a permanent plan either.  Working with a trainer, even for a short amount of time, will increase your confidence and knowledge so that you might be more adventurous in what exercise you choose to do independently.

If you’re contemplating getting a personal trainer then it’s really important to find the right one for you. We all have different areas of expertise and different ways to motivate and encourage you, as well as different types of spaces to exercise in. At The Enjoy Movement we are great at creating an inclusive, sociable and supportive exercise environment. We believe in positive reinforcement and encouragement. As we work together to improve your strength and fitness we want you to feel energised, to have your mood lifted and to feel pride in your achievements. We are also big fans of outdoor exercise, keeping things fun and not taking ourselves too seriously.

Fundamentally, we believe that these things make for enjoyable exercise and therefore keep you active and healthy for life.
